Protests have been called across the country to oppose the partnership between Theresa May’s Conservatives and the DUP, a bigoted party with a history of campaigning against LGBT+, sexist and anti-abortion, and known for sectarianism.
Stand Up To Racism co-convenor Sabby Dhalu said, “Theresa May has announced her intention to continue pursuing her anti-immigrant, xenophobic hard-Brexit programme through an alliance with the DUP, a party notorious for its history of vicious sectarianism and bigotry.
“She also wasted no time in signalling her intention to crack down on civil liberties and whip up hostility to Muslims in the wake of the attacks in London and Manchester.”
Weyman Bennett, co-convenor of Stand Up To Racism, said “We are going to send a clear message that we did not vote for this toxic agenda and we want a government which opposes racism, values diversity and recognises the rights of refugees and migrants.
“We say refugees welcome here, guaranteed rights for EU nationals, no to Islamophobia and antisemitism.”
